Jesus Christ is your personal Savior.
Jesus Christ is your personal Savior. But what does this mean? The Oxford English Dictionary's definition of the word "personal" means "affecting a person as an individual rather than as a member of a group". And the definition of "savior" is "a person who saves or rescues a person, thing from danger, harm". The dictionary even tells us that "God or especially Christ as the being who saves humankind from sin and its consequences".
How do we know that Jesus Christ is interested in saving individuals - you and me - from harm?
The Bible tells us that, after Jesus rose from the dead, He took the time to speak to individuals personally so that they might believe He had risen and was their Savior.
The first person Jesus spoke to was Mary. Jesus knew that Mary needed to hear her own name spoken by Him. The Bible says: " She turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not know that it was Jesus. He said to her, 'Woman, why are you crying? Who are you looking for?' She thought He was the man who cared for the garden. She said to Him, 'Sir, if you have taken Jesus from here, tell me where you have put Him. I will take Him away.' Jesus said to her, 'Mary!' She turned around and said to Him, 'Teacher!'... Mary Magdalene went and told the followers that she had seen the Lord." (John 20:14-18 )
Jesus knew that Thomas needed to touch Jesus' physical wounds to believe: "Thomas was not with them when Jesus came... The other followers told him, 'We have seen the Lord!' He said to them, 'I will not believe until I see the marks made by the nails in His hands. I will not believe until I put my finger into the marks of the nails. I will not believe until I put my hand into His side'... Eight days later the followers were again inside a house. Thomas was with them. The doors were locked. Jesus came and stood among them. He said, 'May you have peace!' He said to Thomas, 'Put your finger into My hands. Put your hand into My side. Do not doubt, believe!' Thomas said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him, 'Thomas, because you have seen Me, you believe'." (John 20:25-28 )
These were different people. They believed in different ways. They needed Jesus to reveal Himself to them in different ways. We are different people too and your needs are different from the next person. Sometimes we doubt ourselves because we don't believe in the same way as the person next to us; our spouse, someone in our family, a friend. But this is of no concern to Jesus. He knows what you need to hear and see in order for you to believe in Him.
Jesus knows what you need to hear and see to believe in Him. Speak to Him now and tell Him.
What will it take for you to believe?
